Alex Adamson (Linlithgow, Scotland) is a Scotland Open Team player. Additionally, he has captained the Scottish Open, Junior and Women's teams. After a successful European Championships in 2018, he captained the women in the Venice Cup in Wuhan in 2019.

In the 1970s they formed a successful bridge partnership, winning a number of national events. Taf moved on to the USA, where he became a vice president of Cisco Systems.

JAY APFELBAUM lives in Philadelphia and works as an administrative law judge. He is married with two daughters and two grandchildren. He regularly plays with his wife, April, at local bridge clubs and tournaments. Jay is a Grand Life Master. His first regional victory came in 1973 at a knockout event in Richmond, Virginia. He won the Blue Ribbon Pairs in 1976. Since then he has won many regional events and placed in the top ten of a number of national events.

Émile Borel (1871-1956) made contributions to mathematics, it can be argued, that introduced our era of probabilistic, quantitative decision making, so adaptable to the computer and thereby so pervasive today. He published more than fifty papers on probability between 1905 and 1950. Between 1921 and 1927 he published papers on game theory and was first to define games of strategy, publishing various papers and finally, Applications aux jeux de hazard in 1938, of which this book formed a part.
