Bridge in the 23rd century

They certainly play chess aboard Federation starships, so why should it come as a surprise to discover that bridge is also a popular pursuit? In these pages you can watch members of the crew playing as they warp through the galaxies. Follow the adventures of Captain Quirk and First Officer Sprock as their team competes against some of the best players in the universe in a major championship.

First published in 1990, this is an updated edition of internationally-acclaimed, award-winning author Marc Smith's debut novel.

Critics’ Viewpoint
Almost thirty years ago Marc Smith wrote about bridge in the 23rd Century aboard the USS Starship Competitor. Now, at last, we have the sequel, describing the bridge and space adventures of the Starship under a new commander in the 24th Century. And the original book, with revisions, has been republished alongside it. There is much to enjoy in both these books, even if you’re not a Star Trek fan (I’m not), but I imagine it will add to the enjoyment if you are. The hands are interesting and often instructive, the stories in which they are set are well constructed, and the characters are lifelike.  The newer book is more instructional, supported by frequent ‘over the shoulder’ descriptions of a player’s train of thought. However, fans of highly artificial systems might be disappointed to discover that the Vulcan Variable Pass, in common use in the 23rd century, seems to have gone completely out of fashion a hundred years later. — A New Bridge Magazine  09/25/2018
